- Il
Comune di Firenze opera con l’obiettivo di
“favorire la libertà, la pace e l’incontro fra i
popoli. Si impegna per il rispetto, la dignità e
l’accoglienza di ogni essere umano .........
Ricerca .... l’integrazione sociale degli
immigrati e garantisce il rispetto dei loro diritti” (Statuto
del Comune di Firenze, art. 8).

- L’Assessorato
alla Pubblica Istruzione del Comune ha posto in questi
ultimi anni particolare attenzione al mondo
dell’infanzia, dei giovani e alla ricerca di prassi
utili a garantire il diritto allo studio dei ragazzi
stranieri neo-arrivati, il loro inserimento nella
comunità cittadina, il riconoscimento e mantenimento
della loro identità culturale.
- La
città si è arricchita in questi anni di nuovi spazi e
servizi dedicati all’accoglienza di coloro che
arrivano da altri paesi :
- Ludoteche
e spazi gioco interculturali
- Centri
di alfabetizzazione per alunni non italofoni
- Laboratori
linguistici

- Sono
state inoltre promosse una serie di iniziative rivolte
alla cittadinanza e alle scuole sui temi
dell’accoglienza e della multiculturalità tra le
quali ricordiamo le mostre “La biblioteca del
Mediterraneo”e “La Cina è un aquilone”, il
convegno internazionale “Chi vuole fiabe chi
vuole?”, mentre è in atto il progetto degli Scaffali
multiculturali.
- In
particolare i Centri di alfabetizzazione partecipano
alla sperimentazione del programma Crocus ed il Centro
Gandhi è sede dei corsi di formazione rivolti al mondo
della scuola per facilitarne il suo utilizzo.
- I
Centri di alfabetizzazione oltre a porsi, insieme alle
scuole, l’obiettivo di attuare, nell’ambito del
Piano dell’Offerta Formativa, interventi mirati all’alfabetizzazione
nella lingua di accoglienza e nella lingua di origine,
vanno connotandosi sempre più anche come sedi di
incontro e documentazione per la sperimentazione di
strategie educative interculturali.

MUNICIPALITY

- The
municipality of Florence works with the aim of
“facilitating freedom, peace and the meeting of
people. It is committed to the respect, dignity and
welcoming of all human beings… seeking… social
integration of immigrants and ensuring the respect for
their rights” (Art. 8 of the Statute of the
Municipality of Florence).

- The
Council Dept. for Public Education has recently paid
particular attention to children, youth and the search
for useful practices in order to ensure the right for
education of newly arrived foreign children, their
integration in the community, the recognition and
maintenance of their cultural identity.
- In
recent years the city has gained new spaces and services
designed for the reception of people coming from other
countries:
- Play
schools and intercultural play centres
- Language
learning centres for non-Italian speakers
- Language
laboratories

- A
whole range of initiatives have been promoted for
citizens and schools on the subjects of reception and
multicultural activities, among which we can quote
“The Mediterranean Library” and “China is a kite”,
the international conference “Who’s asking for fairy
tales, who’s asking?”, while still going is the
project of “multicultural shelves”.
- In
particular, the language learning centres are taking
part in the experimental activities of the Crocus
programme, and training courses for schools are held at
the Gandhi Centre in order to make its use easier.
- The
language learning centres, alongside the schools, have
the aim of providing learning of the host language as
well as of the original language of immigrants, within
the Training Provision Scheme. They are increasingly
also serving as a place for meeting and documentation in
order to test intercultural educational strategies.
